Generated explanation

A perspective view and enlarged cross section show a pitch pan sealing an irregular column penetration through a modified bitumen roof. The sheet-metal pan surrounds the column and has an outward flange overlapped by a collar of roofing material. Cold asphalt mastic fills the pan, with its surface sloped away from the column for drainage. The cross section shows the roof membrane above sheathing and roof rafters. Notes describe pitch pans as a less-than-ideal sealing approach with few alternatives and state that regular maintenance is required.
