Generated explanation

Four side-by-side house and foundation diagrams illustrate sources of foundation heaving: frost heave, adfreezing, expansive soils, and a high water table. The frost-heave panel shows a frost line beneath the footing, with arrows indicating upward pressure below and inward pressure at the foundation sides. The adfreezing panel shows upward forces along the outside faces of the foundation and identifies the frost line. The expansive-soils panel shows surrounding soil exerting upward pressure beneath the footing and inward pressure at the sides. The high-water-table panel shows a water level above the footing and arrows indicating upward pressure beneath the foundation.
