Generated explanation

The illustration shows plywood subfloor panels installed over parallel wood floor joists, with staggered panel joints. The panels' long dimension and face grain run perpendicular to the joists, as indicated by a double-headed arrow. Fasteners are shown along panel edges and at intermediate supports. A highlighted edge detail calls for minimum 2-inch-by-2-inch blocking at unsupported edges or the use of tongue-and-groove panels. An annotation recommends glue and screws to increase floor rigidity and reduce squeaks.
