Generated explanation

The illustration shows a two-story house with a basement foundation and an attached single-story garage with a shed roof. The garage is depicted settling downward relative to the house, with its wall, door opening, and footing tilted. A callout identifies a settlement crack at the junction between the garage and house near the garage roof. An annotation notes that settlement is often rotational, and a downward arrow emphasizes the garage's movement.
