Generated explanation

The illustration shows a wood-framed wall supported above floor framing and a concrete foundation wall. Wall studs rest on a sole plate above the subfloor, while a sill plate separates the floor framing from the foundation. The sole plate projects outward beyond its structural support, with arrows identifying the overhang and the stud width. The annotation states that, if a wood-frame wall must overhang its structural support, the bottom plate overhang must not exceed one-third of the stud width.
