Generated explanation

A cross section of a wood-framed attic shows sloped roof rafters, horizontal ceiling joists, supporting walls, and exposed electrical wires. Wire locations are indicated along the rafters and ceiling joists. A large red prohibition symbol emphasizes that wires should not run on top of exposed attic rafters or joists. A vertical 40-inch dimension illustrates headroom between a ceiling joist and a rafter, and an annotation notes that some jurisdictions permit this arrangement where headroom is less than 40 inches.
