Generated explanation

Two cross sections depict three-sided masonry chimneys retrofitted against existing exterior walls, one with brick veneer and one with siding over wood framing. The sections show the chimney and flue liner beside wall sheathing, framing, floor joists, ceiling joists, and roof rafters. The left example retains the original brick veneer wall along the house side of the chimney and warns that matching brickwork can make the retrofit difficult to identify. Its annotation cautions that clearances to combustibles may be inadequate. The right example is marked with an X and warns that the flue liner may be very close to combustible materials in the wood-frame wall.
