Generated explanation

The illustration shows two fireplaces on separate floor levels connected to a single flue within a chimney. The lower fireplace's passage rises and offsets toward the common vertical flue beside the upper fireplace. A heavy flow line and arrow show exhaust from the lower fireplace entering the upper fireplace and discharging into the room. The annotation identifies this shared-flue arrangement as an unsafe condition found in some older homes.
