One Ton of Cooling

Text in the illustration

cooling is typically measured in tons
one ton of cooling is equivalent to 12,000 BTU/hour
(12,000 BTUs is the amount of heat required to melt one ton of ice)
one ton of ice

Generated explanation

The illustration shows a block labeled one ton of ice melting into a puddle beneath a sun, with wavy lines representing incoming heat. The annotations explain that cooling capacity is typically measured in tons and that one ton of cooling equals 12,000 BTU/hour. A parenthetical annotation associates 12,000 BTUs with melting one ton of ice, although that statement omits the time basis and is not an accurate total melting-energy value. No air-conditioning equipment or building assembly is depicted.
