Air Conditioning – Fan

Text in the illustration

refrigerant lines
the fans in most modern condenser units rotate horizontally and discharge air out the top (air is brought in through the sides) but, they can also operate diagonally and vertically depending on the manufacturer
excess vibration or bearing noise may indicate that bearing failure is a potential problem
the fan blades should be turning very fast when the unit is in operation (if they aren't - service is required)
to prevent rusting of the fan and motor, condensing units should be covered in the winter according to some experts

Generated explanation

The illustration depicts an outdoor air-conditioning condenser unit with a top-mounted fan beneath a protective grille. Arrows show outside air entering through the side coil and heated air discharging upward, labeled 100°F. Refrigerant lines and a data plate are identified on the adjacent cabinet face. Notes describe typical fan orientation and identify excessive vibration, bearing noise, or inadequate fan speed as potential service concerns. Another annotation presents winter covering as a rust-prevention recommendation attributed to some experts; no actual damage is depicted.
