Generated explanation

Two schematic diagrams compare refrigerant flow in a heat pump during the cooling cycle (A) and heating cycle (B). Each shows an indoor coil and blower, an outdoor coil and fan, a compressor, and a reversing valve connected by red and blue refrigerant lines. Separate cooling and heating capillary expansion devices are each piped in parallel with a check valve. Flow arrows show refrigerant passing through the cooling capillary during cooling and through the heating capillary during heating, with the other capillary bypassed through its associated check valve. The reversing valve changes the flow path between operating modes.
