Conductance – Thermal Thermal Conductance Insulation – the Basics

Text in the illustration

the conductance (C) is equal to the number of BTUs that will pass through one square foot of the material over the course of 1 hour (with a 1 °F temperature difference across the material)
in this case, the conductance (C) of the concrete block wall is 0.9

Generated explanation

The illustration shows a cutaway section of an 8-inch hollow concrete block wall with staggered joints. A marked area on the wall face represents one square foot, and the opposite sides are labeled with temperatures differing by 1°F. A large arrow represents 0.9 BTUs of heat passing through the wall. The accompanying text defines thermal conductance as heat transfer through one square foot of material in one hour at a 1°F temperature difference, and gives this wall a conductance of 0.9.
