Generated explanation

A basement cross section shows a gas-fired storage water heater connected to hot- and cold-water supply piping beneath the floor framing. The incoming cold-water line rises beside the foundation wall through a main shutoff valve and branches down to the water heater through another valve. The cold-water feed to the heater is depicted with larger-diameter piping than the hot-water outlet, with reference samples labeled 3/4-inch and 1/2-inch copper pipe. Arrows indicate cold water flowing toward the distribution piping and into the heater, and hot water flowing upward from the heater to the hot-water distribution line. A gas supply connection, a short top vent connection, and a side-mounted relief valve with a discharge pipe are also shown.
