Generated explanation

The illustration shows a belt-driven piston pump used in older private well-water systems. A motor drives a large pulley and crank linkage, converting rotary motion into reciprocating piston movement inside the pump cylinder. The cylinder has separate inlet and outlet passages with valves controlling water flow. The main view and three circular details show successive piston positions: inward travel discharges water through the outlet valve, while outward travel draws water through the inlet valve. Arrows indicate pulley rotation, piston travel, and water-flow direction.
