Generated explanation

The illustration shows a partially exploded crimp connection for polybutylene water-supply pipe, with a loose pipe section and crimp ring beside a barbed coupling inserted into another pipe section. The installed ring is positioned 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch from the pipe end. Annotations specify copper crimp rings and copper or brass barbed insert fittings, noting problems with older aluminum rings and increased leakage risk with older polyacetyl plastic fittings. The installed ring diameter is to be checked with a special gauge to verify that the connection is neither overtightened nor undertightened.
