Generated explanation

The illustration shows a direct-vent gas storage water heater with hot and cold water connections, a vent, and an external gas supply line. An enlarged cutaway details a high-temperature automatic gas shutoff valve with a temperature probe extending into the tank near the dip tube. The annotation states that water temperatures above 210°F cause the valve to shut off the gas supply automatically, and manual resetting is required after the water cools. The detail marks a vertical distance of less than 6 inches between an upper reference line and the probe level. The main view also identifies the lower gas valve and a drip leg in the gas piping.
