Generated explanation

The illustration compares a separate P-trap in cross section with the built-in trapway of a toilet. Blue shading shows retained water in both assemblies, and labels identify their inlets, crowns, and outlets. The toilet section also shows the tank, rim openings, bowl, and outlet connection through a gasket to the toilet flange at floor level. Below the flange, an elbow connects to the drain; a dashed circle and annotation emphasize that no additional trap is required.
