Generated explanation

The illustration shows cutaway views of common defects where a deck ledger and railing meet an exterior insulation and finish system (EIFS) wall. At the ledger, the reinforcing mesh and base coat are not backwrapped at the EIFS terminations, and flashings are missing. A separate view shows a ledger bolted through the EIFS cladding. At the rail connection, the railing is secured to the wall before the EIFS is installed, with the cladding terminating around the attachment.
