Generated explanation

A wall section shows a wood window frame and sill extension above a brick sill in a brick-veneer wall, with framing, sheathing, sheathing paper and interior drywall identified. The upper detail shows the window moving downward as the wall framing shrinks while the brick sill supports the outer end of the sill extension. This creates a reverse slope that allows water to enter toward the window. The lower detail shows a better initial approach: leave clearance between the sill extension and brick sill for movement, and fill the gap with backer rod, caulking or flashing.
