Generated explanation

The illustration compares four balcony support arrangements: columns and the house wall, tension members shown as chains, brackets or consoles, and a cantilever. Each balcony has an elevated platform, perimeter guards with vertical balusters, and a glazed access door at the house side. The column-supported example has two tall posts bearing on small circular bases, while the bracket-supported example shows a diagonal brace beneath the platform. The chain-supported example hangs from inclined tension members, and the cantilevered example has no visible outer supports. The annotation identifies the lack of steps and access to grade level as the defining feature of balconies; no defects are indicated.
