Generated explanation

A built-up wooden beam rests on a column and extends into a pocket in a concrete foundation wall. The drawing identifies a minimum end-bearing length of 3-1/2 inches at the wall. An annotation calls for air space around the beam end to promote circulation and reduce the likelihood of rot. A probing tool is shown at the beam near the wall pocket, indicating where to check for decay. The illustration highlights inspection concerns at beam end supports without showing a confirmed bearing deficiency or visible rot.
