Generated explanation

The illustration shows a brick chimney penetrating a sloped roof covered with overlapping rectangular roofing units. Several light-colored roofing units contrast with the surrounding gray covering and are identified as different roofing materials. Metal flashing surrounds the chimney base, with exposed unpainted or unrusty portions called out along one side. Dark asphalt-based patching material covers portions of the roof-to-flashing junction beside the chimney. These contrasting materials and localized applications indicate previous patching at and near the chimney penetration.
