Generated explanation

A brick chimney projects through a sloped shingle roof, with a raised cricket or saddle flashing at its upslope face. The saddle forms sloping surfaces that divert runoff around the chimney, as indicated by the water-flow arrow. Flashing extends up the masonry at the roof intersection. A dimension identifies the chimney as 30 inches or wider, and the annotations state that chimneys of this width require a saddle flashing. The saddle may be metal or covered with roofing material.
