Generated explanation

The illustration shows a brick chimney passing through a shingled roof, with metal flashing around its base and an enlarged side view of the uphill head flashing. The head flashing extends beneath the uphill shingles and turns up against the chimney, where counter flashing covers its vertical leg. The specified flashing height is 1.5 times the shingle exposure, but not less than 6 inches or one-sixth the chimney width. The roof leg must extend uphill to a point level with the flashing height at the chimney, and at least 1.5 times the shingle exposure. A minimum 3-inch dimension is also marked at the counter-flashing overlap.
