Generated explanation

The illustration shows a section through a multi-wythe solid brick masonry wall supported on a concrete foundation. Successive masonry courses are offset to form a corbel, shifting the upper wall beyond the foundation edge, with header bricks spanning the wall thickness. Dimension lines identify wall thickness T, individual course projections, and the total corbel projection. Annotations specify maximum individual projections of one-third unit thickness or one-half unit height in the US and 1 inch in Canada, with total projection limited to T/2 in the US and T/3 in Canada. A note states that corbelling is more restricted for single-wythe walls, masonry-bonded walls, multi-wythe walls with open collar joints, and veneer walls.
