Generated explanation

The illustration compares electric meter locations in modern and some older residential service arrangements. Arrangement A shows a meter upstream of a combination panel containing a main breaker and branch-circuit breakers. Arrangement B shows an open fused service box upstream of the meter, with the meter connected onward to a separate distribution panel containing round fuse positions. The older arrangement also shows a grounding conductor leaving the service box, labeled "to ground." Neither arrangement is marked as defective.
