Relighting Pilot Light Pilotlight – Re-Lighting Re-lighting Pilot Light Gas Burner

Text in the illustration

B
to re-light pilot - turn main valve to "pilot" position
depress pilot reset button to bypass thermocouple then manually light pilot
hold reset button down for 60 seconds to allow pilot flame to heat up thermocouple enough to energize electromagnet
electromagnet will hold pilot valve in open position
C
release reset button and turn main valve back to "on" position

Generated explanation

Three simplified cross sections illustrate a standing-pilot gas valve during pilot failure, relighting, and restored operation. Panel A shows the pilot extinguished or the thermocouple defective, causing the electromagnet to release the pilot valve and shut off gas to both the pilot and burners. Panel B shows the main valve in the pilot position and the reset button depressed while a match lights the pilot; the annotation specifies holding the button for 60 seconds to heat the thermocouple and energize the electromagnet. Panel C shows the reset button released, the main valve returned to the on position, and flow arrows indicating gas delivery to the pilot and burners. Each panel shows the pilot tubing and the thermocouple connection to the gas valve.
