Generated explanation

The illustration shows a cross section of a masonry chimney beside a wood-framed floor, with a vent connector and chimney cleanout below. An enlarged detail shows the clearance between the chimney masonry and the floor framing closed off at the floor level by a non-combustible fire stop. The fire stop spans the gap beneath the framing and turns down against the chimney. The annotation emphasizes that there should not be an open passage from one floor to the next around the chimney.
