Generated explanation

The illustration compares two masonry chimney-top details in cross section. On the left, a cement wash terminates at the brick face without an overhang or capillary break and is marked with a red X. On the right, a sloped chimney cap projects beyond the masonry and includes an underside capillary break at its outer edge, marked with a green check. Flashing is shown beneath the approved cap, and flue liners extend above both chimney-top finishes.
