Generated explanation

The illustration presents three problematic wood-burning fireplace designs. A side section shows back-to-back fireplaces with separate fireboxes opening toward a shared chimney passage. A second side section shows a fireplace with a dramatically offset smoke chamber at its connection to the chimney, with the damper identified at the firebox throat. A front view shows a brick fireplace with a tall, wood-filled storage alcove directly beside the firebox. All three arrangements are identified as problematic designs.
