Generated explanation

The illustration shows a direct-vent wall furnace in perspective and in a side-view schematic at an exterior wall. Cool room air enters the lower grille, passes the heat exchanger, and exits as warm air through the upper grille. The schematic identifies the burner and a fan that may or may not be present. A combined combustion-air and exhaust vent passes horizontally through the exterior wall, supplying outdoor air to the burner and discharging exhaust outside. Arrows distinguish room-air circulation from the combustion-air and exhaust paths.
