Guessing the Capacity

Text in the illustration

MODEL CTF-36-12TI
RLA 21 amps
ACME air conditioning ltd.
21 amps divided by 6 to 8 amps per ton equals about 3 tons (a good guess at the capacity if you don't have specific information about that particular manufacturer)
the model number may help verify your guess - for example, 36 probably means 36,000 BTUs or 3 tons

Generated explanation

The illustration shows a house connected to an outdoor air-conditioning condensing unit, with an arrow pointing to an enlarged equipment nameplate. The nameplate displays model CTF-36-12TI and an RLA of 21 amps. An annotation estimates cooling capacity at about 3 tons by dividing 21 amps by 6 to 8 amps per ton when manufacturer-specific information is unavailable. Another annotation suggests checking the model number, where 36 may indicate 36,000 BTUs or 3 tons. These are presented as approximate identification methods rather than a definitive capacity determination.
