Condenser – Air Conditioning – for Heat Pump Heat Pump – Condenser Coil

Text in the illustration

warm liquid refrigerant hot refrigerant gas refrigerant gas to hot refrigerant gas which is forced into the indoor coil condenses the refrigerant from a gas
compressor
hot refrigerant gas (e.g., 160°F) at high pressure
condenser coil
flow direction
cool air from inside house at 70°F
warm air can now be sent back into the house through the ductwork at 90°F
warm liquid refrigerant (e.g., 110°F) at high pressure
the compressor converts cool refrigerant gas to hot refrigerant gas which is forced into the indoor coil
air blowing across the coil condenses the refrigerant from a gas into a liquid (this is why we call the heat pump's inside coil the condensing coil)
in the conversion from gas to liquid, heat is released into the supply air

Generated explanation

The diagram shows a heat pump's indoor condenser coil connected to a compressor during heating operation. Hot, high-pressure refrigerant gas enters the coil at an example temperature of 160°F and leaves as warm, high-pressure liquid at 110°F. Blue arrows indicate indoor air entering the coil at 70°F, while red arrows indicate heated air leaving at 90°F for distribution through ductwork. The annotations explain that refrigerant condensation releases heat into the supply air.
