Generated explanation

The illustration shows two fresh-air supply arrangements for house ventilation. On the left, a hooded, screened outdoor inlet connects through an insulated duct and damper to the return duct of a gas furnace; arrows indicate airflow down the return and out through the supply duct. On the right, a dedicated system draws outdoor air through a wall inlet and damper into its own blower and supply duct. An optional pre-heater is indicated above the blower, and the outdoor inlet is shown at least 18 inches above grade.
