sometimes the insulation above the dropped ceiling is filled to the same height as the rest of the insulation in the attic - the dropped area won't be visible when you're walking in the attic - be careful!

Generated explanation

A cutaway bathroom illustration shows a dropped ceiling above a bathtub and tiled shower enclosure, with attic insulation on the horizontal ceiling surfaces. The vertical transition between the higher ceiling and the dropped ceiling is identified as having no insulation. A large arrow labeled cold air points toward this uninsulated transition and down toward the room. An annotation warns that insulation filled to the surrounding attic level can conceal the dropped area, creating a hazard when walking in the attic.
