Generated explanation

The cross section shows a metal chimney passing through an insulated attic floor and a sloping roof near an exterior wall and soffit vent. A red X marks attic insulation placed directly against the chimney. An enlarged detail with a green check shows a box holding insulation away from the metal chimney, with a labeled 1" to 2" clearance and a fire stop at the floor penetration. A separate note states that only non-combustible insulation should be used next to masonry chimneys.
