Generated explanation

A cross section of an attic eave shows ceiling insulation, an air/vapor barrier beneath it, a roof rafter, a soffit vent, and an insulated exterior wall. A plumbing stack penetrates the ceiling assembly and roof, with a magnified detail highlighting the barrier connection around the stack. An annotation identifies plumbing stacks and other penetrations as locations where the barrier is often less than ideal. Four circular diagrams compare barrier placement relative to the insulation and the attic and interior spaces. Green checks mark placement on the warm side or within the warm third as acceptable, while red crosses mark cold-side placement and two air/vapor barriers as incorrect.
