Generated explanation

The illustration shows a cross section of a bored well with a segmented concrete casing, a cover, and an access hatch. The well is labeled as 2 to 3 feet in diameter with a usual depth of 50 to 100 feet, and water occupies the casing below the water table. The casing projects at least 12 inches above the surrounding ground, which slopes away from the well. An annotation specifies that casing joints in the top 8 feet should be watertight.
