Generated explanation

Two sectional drawings show a globe valve in closed and open positions within a water supply pipe. The handle operates a threaded spindle that raises or lowers a stem washer against the valve seat. In the closed position, the washer seals the opening; in the open position, it is lifted to allow water through the offset passage. A packing nut and packing washer surround the spindle near the handle. Arrows indicate left-to-right water flow, and an annotation explains that globe valves restrict flow but can be used for throttling.
