Generated explanation

The illustration presents cross-sectional views of a flare fitting and its assembly sequence. Step A shows a flare nut slipped over a straight pipe, and step B shows the pipe end flared outward with a flaring tool. Step C shows the nut tightened onto a threaded nipple, capturing the flared plastic pipe end against the fitting. The nipple is shown joined to a copper pipe by a soldered connection, with a separate detail illustrating that joint. An annotation states that flare fittings can connect plastic and/or copper pipes to each other or to fixtures.
