Dosing Chamber Plumbing

Text in the illustration

effluent builds up in the dosing chamber until there is enough water pressure to overcome the pressure of the air trapped in the bell
effluent is then siphoned out through the siphon pipe
when the effluent level gets below the vent pipe inlet, air gets into the bell and the siphon action stops

Generated explanation

A cross section shows a compartmented septic tank discharging effluent into an adjacent dosing chamber. The septic tank contains a floating scum layer, liquid effluent, and settled sludge, with submerged inlet and outlet fittings. The dosing chamber contains a bell siphon, vent pipe, and an overflow pipe connected to the discharge toward the tile bed. Three enlarged details illustrate the operating sequence: rising effluent overcomes air pressure trapped in the bell, siphoning empties the chamber, and air entering the exposed vent pipe inlet stops the siphon. The drawing explains normal operation rather than depicting a defect.
