Generated explanation

The illustration shows two overlapping vinyl siding panels with elongated nail slots in their upper nailing strips. Nails are positioned in the centers of the slots, and the annotations direct installers to attach the siding loosely to permit expansion and contraction. At the joint, the nailing strips are separated by a specified 1/2-inch gap while the panel faces overlap by 1/2 to 1 inch. Although the title identifies nailing too tightly as the concern, the drawing presents installation guidance intended to avoid that condition.
