Generated explanation

The illustration shows a canvas-duck covering over a wood porch or deck floor beside brick masonry. Cutaway layers expose floor boards, identified as often tongue-and-groove 1x4s, supported by joists. The canvas is laid in a bed of paint or linseed oil and lead, using 30- to 36-inch-wide strips with 2-inch overlaps, and painted after installation. An arrow indicates the drainage slope across the lapped covering. A partially shown brick porch column stands at the outer edge.
