Generated explanation

The illustration shows a Yankee gutter installed on a shingled roof above the eave, using a top view, an eave cross section, and an enlarged detail. The detail shows a sheet-metal gutter profile extending beneath the shingles and turning upward to intercept runoff on the roof slope. Arrows in the top view show water flowing down the shingles and then laterally along the gutter. A dashed outline identifies the roof area immediately upslope of the gutter as prone to ice damming, moss growth, and shingle wear. The cross section also shows the roof rafter, roof sheathing, ceiling joist, wall framing, wall sheathing, and soffit.
