baskets/strainers at the top of downspouts can help keep the downspouts clear of debris, but they do tend to make the gutters clog more quickly

Generated explanation

The cross section shows a gutter mounted against a fascia with a spike and ferrule, and a downspout connected beneath the gutter outlet. An open-wire basket/strainer sits over the outlet, with its bulbous upper portion projecting into the gutter and its narrow lower portion extending into the downspout. The strainer intercepts debris before it enters the downspout. The annotation explains that these strainers help keep downspouts clear but tend to make gutters clog more quickly; no actual debris blockage is drawn.
