Generated explanation

The illustration shows an interior stair flight leading to a landing and a hinged door at the top. Dimension arrows identify a minimum landing length of 36 inches and stair widths of 36 inches for the US and 34 inches for Canada. A vertical headroom dimension extends above a dashed line through the tread nosings, with minimums labeled 6 feet 8 inches for the US and 6 feet 5 inches for Canada. A dashed arc indicates the door swing over the landing, and a note states that a landing is not required if the door opens away from the stairs. Handrails are explicitly omitted from the drawing.
