Generated explanation

The illustration identifies common crack locations in basement foundation walls. An elevation of a backsplit house highlights cracking at a joint between differing foundation levels and around a basement window opening. A separate detail shows a built-up wood beam seated in a concrete foundation wall pocket, with a crack extending downward from the pocket. Dashed circles emphasize these locations where openings and changes in the foundation configuration interrupt the wall.
