Generated explanation

The cross section shows a pedestal-type sump pump in a basin below the basement floor beside the foundation wall, receiving water through a side-inlet drain. The pump discharges through a vertical pipe with a check valve, then through the rim joist to an above-grade discharge point outside. The exterior discharge line is labeled to slope away from the house, with pipe support potentially required. An enlarged detail shows the motor above the sump lid, the intake near the basin bottom, and float positions that switch the pump on at a higher water level and off at a lower level. A 120-volt electrical supply is shown beside the pump.
